Hot sauces on the scale of Scoville

The hot sauce sector is booming. With the popular Hot Ones series on YouTube and the various hot sauce issues flooding the Internet, the number of people using hot sauce is higher than ever. This created new brands of hot sauces, offering a variety of flavors and levels of warmth to satisfy everyone. Some people find it soft and sharp, others find it hot and incredibly hot. In this article we discuss some of the most popular hot sauces on the Scoville scale, from the mildest to the hottest.

Our shielding against hot sauces

The sauces we have decided to classify cover the whole range of spices. Regular spicy dinner sauces such as Tabasco with Mad Dog 357 pure extract. We tried most of the of these spicy sauces, but we didn’t have the courage (or stupidity?) to put pure capsaicin on our tongues. When all this is said and done, let’s start walking through the rows of the Scoville Scale of Hot Sauce!

RedHot Frank is a true classic that dates back to the early 1900s in Louisiana. It is also considered an important ingredient in the original winged buffalo sauce made in Buffalo, New York. You can now see Frank in supermarkets around the world and at the counters of local restaurants. It is undoubtedly delicious, with a simple and matured cayenne pepper recipe that is timeless.

This hot sauce will serve as a reference value, corresponding to only 450 SHU on the Scovillescale. We all know and love Frank, so it’s an excellent comparison for the unpleasant heat of late sauces…

Another staple food (at least at home) will be Tabasco’s spicy sauce. They produce a variety of new flavors that differ from their original recipe, but the original is really something special. Tabasco can bring tasteless food to life with a few small touches. The sauce contains only three ingredients: vinegar, red pepper and salt. The proportions are perfect for sandwiches, pizzas and everything else.

The heat level increases slightly in Tabasco, reaches the 2500-5000 SHU reported on the Scovillescale, depending on the batch. It’s bearable for most people, but significantly more acute than Frank’s.

Cholula is one of our most popular grocery stores with a hot sauce for daily use. It doesn’t taste like what we tried, and the heat is respectable. It is also affordable and has a rich history as a tequila tracker in Mexico. The heat moves just above Tabasco, which means that Cholula can be a turning point for heat for some people. We like spicy, so there’s nothing crazy for us PepperGeeks, but for the hot sauce you can buy at the Stop & Shop, Cholula has a good piece.

Cholula brings a respectable warmth to about 3600 SHU on the Scoville scale. With warm sauces in front of the restaurant table, it’s about as hot as you’ll see. Anyway, we’re just starting to get interested in the spice line…

When things go wrong, brands become less well known. However, Dawson creates some of the most delicious hot sauces available, and their sauce is the most original of all. We think some of the best sauces are simple, and this sauce is no exception. The difference is that this spicy sauce uses habanero pepper as the first ingredient. If you know Habaneros, you will understand why they are much spicier than the first sauces on our list. Read our full review of the original Dawson Hot Sauce here.

Dawson’s making a big leap on the Scoville scale. This hot sauce is available in the order of 82,000 SHU, which is much hotter than what you can buy in the store. It is also offered at a much higher price, but we think it is worth the price of the high quality ingredients and the beautiful design and appearance.

Da Bomba has been hated in the hot sauce business for years and is known for its aggressive heat. Yeah, we tried, and it’s as bad and brutally spicy as all those unfortunate guests at Hot One. That’s because the ingredients in Da Bomb are harder to shock, while the smell just makes you think. The spiciness comes from habaneros, but also from pepper extract, which gives it an almost metallic, battery-acid taste. It’s no good. It doesn’t have to be in someone’s fridge. But they probably sold millions of those damn bottles. Luckily there are other sauces that are even hotter, but also tasty.

Da Bomb comes with 135,000 relatively tame SHU on the Scoville scale, although we think it takes to have a lively flavour. This can happen because the Scoville Scale doesn’t always tell the whole shop what the hot sauce looks like. Da Bomb burns at the same level as the spicy sauces in Last Dab, although these sauces claim to be ten times hotter on the Scoville scale. * shrug your shoulders

After his debut in 11th grade. In season 9 of the Hot Ones Widowboy finished 9th in the Spicy Wings. That means it’s certainly hot for the average citizen, but it only scores half a point on our Scoville scale for hot sauces. Dingo Sauce Co. is based in Western Australia and produces a variety of spicy sauces. Widow Maker’s delicious hot sauce is a mix of 6 different super hot chillies as the first ingredient. That means intense heat. However, the sauce also contains extra flavours such as lime, garlic and brown sugar, so it’s a sauce that some people could use. We love sauces that offer both warmth and taste.

The unique collaboration between Hot Ones / 88 Rising brought us the kite in the clouds in 2019, the 7-digit heat of the SHU. This spicy sauce is unique, but also unusual and suitable for consumption. It is brutally spicy thanks to the ghost chicken and its bitter skin resembles that of a citrus fruit from Yuzu. Usually we tasted the sauce, and then it ended. Some readers told us they had a unique taste, but it wasn’t for us. Especially in view of the aggressive heating.

Dragon sauce in the clouds is no joke. Although we haven’t been able to find an official degree of sharpness for the sauce, we assume that it’s about a million SHU on the Scoville scale. Since the first ingredient is phantom pepper, the sauce most likely falls under this brand. Looks like it’s true…

The Mad Dog is a spicy food phenomenon. David Ashley, a native of Massachusetts, began making his sauces and culinary atrocities in 1991. You know you’re dealing with spicy food when the company reports firearms (357 Magnum). The Hot Sauce Gold Edition comes with a replica shell, just like an add-on. This sauce actually uses the plutonium 9 extract of his own dog (more about this later…) to pump extra heat into the sauce. As mentioned before, we’re not fans of hot sauce extraction. However, if you use non-rare and hard to get super hot peppers as the main ingredient, it will be difficult to decipher the 1M SHU label without using pepper extract. Mad Dog offers some of the hottest sauces on the market, but they also claim to have spicy sauces with a mild and slightly spicy taste.

Mad Dog 357 Gold Edition is valued at 1,000,000 Scoville SHU. It makes the sauce unbearably hot, made for those who like to take the heat out of every meal. This bottle can stay in our fridge for a lifetime without ever being emptied.

Now is this how to make super hot sauce. The latest Dab Triple X sauce is hot to use, and not just for novelties. The strong taste of caraway for us is addictive and can actually be combined well with food. We’ve tried many times, and now we have more than one bottle in our current stock. It’s a nice place if you like super hot food, although we also have other super hot sauces we like. Hats off to the Hot Ones and Ed Currie Smokin’ Smokin, who have made a crazy hot sauce that tastes really good.

The latest Triple X Dab comes with a huge amount of SHU 2,000,000+ on the Scoville scale. This was made possible by the X Pepper variety developed by Ed Kerry of the Puckerbutt Pepper Company. That’s the guy who made Carolina Riper’s pepper. You know, the hottest pepper in the world. NBD.

And now we’ve introduced . Are you kidding?. The region. This sauce is only called vaguely hot because the ingredients are a chili extract, an emulsifier and vinegar. Satan’s blood is not meant to improve the taste of food. The only goal was to make the food very hot. I have to say they did. I think the reason I bought it was in a scary package, in a bottle that looked like a bottle of evil witch poison. Yeah, I tried that stuff. It was uncomfortable. It was hardly food. But it was probably the hottest, most concentrated food I’ve ever eaten. So I put a star next to the Scoville coast…

Although Satan’s blood is officially estimated at 800,000 on the Scovillescale, the to experiment is much more intense than the spicy sauces mentioned above. Consists almost entirely of pepper extract, a concentration of capsaicin in liquid form. No taste, just warmth.

Warnings are on the plutonium pack no. 9 of Mad Dog 357 hot sauce (if you can call it a sauce). With an enormous amount of 9,000,000 SHU, this can hardly be considered a real spice. In fact, the Amazon site states that it should not be used directly, but only as a food additive. Not only that, but also some heating to 140°F to get it out of the bottle.

No, I’m fine, thank you. This stuff is too expensive for us. We didn’t worry about buying this sauce, firstly because it is certainly unbearable to eat, but also because the price is quite high. I think removing pure capsaicin is an expensive process.

This is (hopefully) the end of the road for the hottest sauces in the world, but we wouldn’t be surprised if someone found a way to extract another million Scoville heat units from the next batch of suffering liquid.

Just when you think you’ve seen the hottest peppers and the hottest sauces, something new breaks the mould. We know our limits when it comes to the spiciness of pepper, but some people like it very much, is much spicier than we , and we can understand that. We hope this will help you find out where your favorite bottle of hot sauce fits on the Scoville scale. Let us know which sauces you like and how hot they are!
